Nature Hike in Hawaii

Mother Nature, Pixel.com

I started to like hiking when I moved to Hawaii from California, and I made it one of my favorite outdoor activities since I have done my first hiking here at Manoa Trail. I felt a secure connection from myself to the natural environment that I have never experienced before.
Moreover, nature hiking helps me reducing much stress and activating my active energy, and I can do some workouts through it.
However, I like the peaceful impression when I am walking through the woods, smelling the earthy scent, breathing the fresh air, and listening to the wild sounds from the birds, or the water running down the waterfall, or the winds blew to the leaves.
Besides that, discovering and conquering a new place is such a wonderful feeling to me when I reached the mountain top. Sometime I could see the double rainbow up there, and it considers the best luck to whoever sees it.
Furthermore, I have done hiking up to the pinnacle of Koko Head and Diamond Head, so, believe me, the Honolulu landscape is so attractive up there.
Some of my friends from California came to visit me last summer. I told them that they should go hiking, and I took them to Manoa Trail, the easy one to me. After they have finished and seen the beautiful waterfall which has a little rainbow beyond it, they, just like me before, started to love the beauty of Hawaii’s nature that we could not see in California. Unfortunately, they just came here in a week for their vacation. I told them a week was not enough for many outdoor activities in Hawaii, they should take at least two weeks on their next visit so that I could show them more hiking places.
However, I enjoy going hiking every weekend with my cousins, or my brothers, or my friends whenever they have free time, or even with my son since he started walking because I want to pass the love of nature from myself to others. Some of them might feel the bond by themselves to the environment. When they start to feel that bond, they are going to love it, and they will do anything to protect it. I want to show them how attractive from our Hawaii mother nature is, that might help them develop their love into it.
As a result, I can feel the bond between ano, in Olelo Hawaii means nature, and myself while I am hiking. That feeling is hard to tell, but it exists inside my body. That bond improves every single time when I hike.
Makuahine ‘Ano, means mother nature, is my connection to the aina, and I could tell I love it every time I do walking to commune with nature.

  1. Hi Lam- Wow! Such a nice post! I love that you are incorporating your ‘Olelo Hawai’i into your writing. I have been fortunate to have traveled all over the world, and I have to say, Hawaii is probably the most beautiful place I have experienced. For nature lovers, it is especially enjoyable. That is so great that you are exposing your son to the joys of nature and hiking here on this amazing island.

    1. Thanks, Ms. Kym.
Yes, I think so; nature here is so delightful, unlike Vietnam’s or California’s, where I did hike, but I felt nothing there.
